Madrid

Tuvimos un buen tiempo en Madrid, gracias a nuestra maravillosa familia. Fue un placer pasar tiempo con todos.

We're back from our 10 day vacation in Spain. I'm going to break this trip into smaller posts since I took almost 800 pictures.

The Royal Palace - King Philip V ordered this palace to be built as his own Versailles. The construction of this 2,000 room palace was completed in 1755.

The Royal Guard posing for a pic! They come by each night just for show since the royal family no longer lives in this palace.

Almudena Cathedral - In its various stages it took about 100 years to complete, and was consecrated in 1993 by Pope John Paul.

Plaza Mayor

Spiderman, Spiderman, Does whatever a spider can! There were a ton of people dressed up in this plaza trying to make money but this was our favorite.

Puerta de Alcalá

Monument to Alfonso XII in Retiro Park

Caixa Forum's Wall of Vegetation - This "garden" is 24 meters high on a vertical wall and consists of 460 square meters with 15,000 plants from 250 different species. It survives without soil and only needs water and nutrients.

Plaza de España - a monument to Spanish novelist, poet and playwright Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

Easter Sunday was spent stuffing ourselves with the yummy paella Tia Maria made. She told Danny how to make it and we bought the pan so hopefully I can try my hand at it soon.
